Mari Verling specializes in collective and individual labor law, providing assistance to both Norwegian and international clients in a variety of cases. Such matters include i.a. reorganizations/ downsizings, whistleblowing, temporary employment, hiring, transfer of undertakings, conflicts, dismissals, issues related to working hours, discrimination matters and pension. Mari possesses extensive knowledge of the Working Environment Act, the Ship Labor Act, and the Civil Servants Act. Furthermore, she has supported clients in legal disputes before the courts concerning both individual and collective labor law.

Mari has also assisted numerous clients in managing whistleblowing cases across the private and public sectors and has conducted several investigations.

She has authored three books on labor law topics, the most recent one addressing the management of whistleblowing cases under the Working Environment Act and the Ship Labor Act (Universitetsforlaget 2023). Her previous publications include books on downsizing and severance agreements (Universitetsforlaget 2022) and layoff procedures (Hegnar Publishing 2020).

Mari regularly delivers lectures for organizations such as JUC, JUS, and the Norwegian Bar Association, as well as customized presentations for clients and internal seminars hosted by Kvale.

In addition to her legal practice, Mari has substantial international experience. After completing an LL.M. with a focus on international contract law at Bond University in Australia, she interned with the United Nations Commission on International Trade Law (UNCITRAL) and subsequently completed a traineeship with the European Free Trade Association (EFTA). These experiences have provided her with a valuable international perspective and insights into issues related to EU/EEA law. Mari has also completed a course in Legal Writing at Harvard Summer School in Boston (2011).
